That is depressing.

You also sometimes have a situation where a team might favor a wicketkeeper because he is more productive offensively over a guy who plays better "D", as you have in baseball with a guy like Mike Piazza. England's use of Alec Stewart for several years comes to mind. Interesting cricket v baseball threads these - I hope there might be more of them in the future.

That was really interesting Philly, and not an aspect of baseball, or of the war, that I'd considered before.

Interesting analysis, good work. It'd be interesting to see the comparative OPS, BB:K and BABIP (H-HR)/(AB-K-HR) numbers for each of them too, though after all the work you already did that doesn't have to be taken as a request

I know what you mean, Philly. Over here in England, many of the classic old stadia have gone now, replaced by more comfortable modern ones, with better views, more comfortable seats, and little atmosphere. Maybe that'll come as they age, but it's still a different experience to see a game now than it was 20 years ago. In our case the changes were inspired partly for crowd control reasons, partly for safety, and partly for making more money. It's understandable - but still a shame that the Baseball Ground is now a housing estate, and Anfield will one day be a supermarket. I hope Servo is right, and if commerce allows the possibility, that they can leave Yankee Stadium as a museum and memorial.

I have yet to discuss this with any baseball fan who has a brain and find him against Rose being in the HoF.

Yep, Cashman's playing it smart, and Sheffield's a douche. Situation normal.

Well I've seen most of all the games - despite the timezone problem (though mine isn't as bad a problem as jono's). Tigers need to have a word with themselves.
