The Red Sox have appeared to reach at least a preliminary agreement with Matsuzaka. No word yet on the Deal but it's probably 5 or 6 years worth between 8-11 mil with some sort of incentive based system built in. I'll keep an eye on this story.

It seems Randy Johnson has requested (or hinted at) a trade back to the West Coast, possibly back to the Diamondbacks, although the Padres and Dodgers are apparently also in the running.
NY Times is suggesting the Yankees might be willing in order to perhaps go after Barry Zito and/or Clemens.
I can see the Big Unit returning to Phoenix, winning the NL Cy Young and his 300th game. It would be so typical. Anyone got any stats on pitchers having their best or near best seasons after leaving the Yankees?

Well I guess someone should say it. Zito signed with the Giants. 7 years 126 million. Is this a good move? Is he worth the money? Discuss.

That's alot of money, but in this year's off season it fits. I think seven years is outrageuos to give a pitcher, especially one who's win totals have been on the decline.

The Yankees traded Randy Johnson to Arizona for reliever Luis Vizcaino, Minor League pitchers Ross Ohlendorf and Steven Jackson, plus Minor League shortstop Alberto Gonzalez. newyork.yankees.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070104&content_id=1773253&vkey=news_nyy&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyyThe Yankees continue to stock up on young arms with potential. Aparrently this is to offset the aging Mussina, Pettite, and potentially Clemens. The Dbacks also extend Johnson's contract through '08 R.J. just never took to the NY media, and just didn't fit in. His injuries didn't help. He'll be playing closer to home now.

I'd doubt seriously that Clemens is coming back anywhere... and if he does i hope its boston... we need to invest that money set aside towards (a/some) young (player/players) with potential... 18 mil for up to 16 games isn't worth it.

I think Clemens will play again this year. And if its only 16 games, the money is pro-rated, so it ends up being roughly half of that 18 mil, which is definately worth the money.
Geebus' talk about the Yankees ruining baseball is pure bullshit. They weren't the ones who spent 125 mil on Barry Zito, or bid 50 mil on Matsuzaka. They didn't even drive up the prices. Every move they have made this offseason has been responsible (trading the Big Eunuch, Gary Sheffield and Jaret Wright for prospects) and they've now got one of the best farm systems in baseball alongside their core of (admittedly) expensive, but undeniably productive free agents. The only relic of their old reckless period is Carl Pavano, and with him you would have to admit they have been extremely unlucky.

Trot Nixon is going to the Indians for $3M.
I'm saddened by this. Trot is a classy, hard-nosed player, and it will be strange not to see him with the Sox.
