Soriano is probably worth tying up for that long. He's pretty damn bankable. Shame the Yankees let him go for A-Rod, I think long term Soriano would have been a better option. Maybe I'm wrong.
From what I'm reading Yankees are gonna sit back and let the other teams pay the high prices on the premium free agents - especially Zito, and are even hesitating over Ted Lilly being too expenseive. It seems they will take any scraps as a fill in while Hughes gets ready for joining the rotation mid season. They're even talking about making Proctor a starter for the time being.
I must say, they seem to be very confident that Randy Johnson and Pavano will be available and healthy. I assume Cashman has good reason to believe that.
Alot of talk about Shea Hillenbrand being a possibility at 1B. I don't understand why they would go after this guy unless Torre thinks he can control his selfish attitude. I wouldn't mind seeing Kevin Millar in pinstripes, at least he's got great character.
(sorry for the Yankee centric posting, but i'm not really following the escapades of every team out there).

Milwaukee received former All-Star catcher Johnny Estrada, right-handed starter Claudio Vargas and right-handed reliever Greg Aquino for left-handed starter Doug Davis and a pair of prospects, lefty Dana Eveland and outfielder David Krynzel from Arizona.

Here is some stuff that has been missed.
Pierre signs with the dodgers with a 5 year deal worth 44 mil. They also resign Nomar, as jim had predicted.
Biggio resigns one year deal with houston. They also pick up Carlos Lee for 6 years costing them 100 mil. And sign pitcher Woody Williams.
Rangers Picked up Frank Catalonotto for 3 years worth 13 mil. Seems like a good fit to me.
Bubba Crosby goes to the Brewers, hurting outfield depth of the yankees.
Gary Matthews Jr goes to the Angels with a 5 year.50mil deal... Worst move so far IMO.
Aramis Rameriz resigns with the cubs with a 5 year 75 mil deal. Cubs seem to be throwing around money. I think thye'll have the offense, Wondering about pitching.
That's all for now I think.

ESPN article saying Sox could trade manny as soon as saturday. sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2677627Most of the rumors involve prospects. Which I don't think would be worth giving up manny for. The guy is, without exaggeration, one of the best hitters in baseball. We should get premium for him. Anyway, I don't want to see him go, but it seems as though he is gone. One point the article touches on though is that the high price FA signings work towards the advantage of the sox front office. Other teams will be more willing to take on more of his salary as the price for good sluggers is very very high this offseason.

He's more of a speed pitcher with a good change up. And has occasional control issues.

The non-Jewish dave roberts signed a 3 year deal worth around 18 mil with the Giants. Nice to see a hard-working guy get a good payday.

Here is the latest Red Sox news with some of my own analysis:
We signed Lugo and Drew (5 years 70 mil) from the dodgers. Lugo should be like the recent crop of SS since Nomah left. Good with the glove soft bats. Drew is Drew. Not a bad signing.
They also Declined arbitration on Nixon, Kapler, and 2nd baseman Loretta, but offering it to Foulke meaning it may not be the end of his time in beantown.
The big question though is the outfield. There are rumors of deals for Wily Mo Pena, and of course Manny. The most recent Manny news focuses on the Dodgers and Angels. The Redsox are seeking fair (in their minds) compensation. They are reportedly asking any deal for Manny be spearheaded by either scott shields or K-Rod for the Angels, or 3 of the Dodgers top 6 prospects including Jonathon Broxton a HUGE 22 year old pitcher who most scouts think will be an elite closer. Bosox are also looking into Gange, but that is doubtful. I think it would be a mistake to sign him, giving his injury problems of recent, as well as the oversaturation of bullpen guys they're looking at. Obviously Theo and the rest of the FO have zoned in on the biggest weakness, but right now I think they have too many irons in the fire for too many guys to play the same role.
Still no deal with Matsuzaka, Boras just got Maddox a new deal, and is also working with Zito. Nine days left till the deadline. It was reported a week or so ago an offer was made but I havn't heard anything since.

I was just coming here to post the Drew signing, and the Sox/Dodgers talks. Apparently the Dodgers want to either keep Broxton or make him a straight deal for Manny. Don't know if the Sox would agree to either. Rumor has it that the Giants made an offer, but it was turned down immediately. Angels are hesitant about letting K-Rod go.
(I just listened to an interview with Buster Olney)
I personally love the fact that the Sox signed Drew, but that's coming from a Yankee fan. I've always thought he was a goldbricker.

Yeah Basically the dodgers won't get manny without Broxton and it won't be straight up.
Angels need to give up either shields, Krod, or even santana or weaver.
I have a feeling that if the deal doesn't get done in the next 2 weeks it won't happen this offseason.
As for Drew, he's a good player but I agree that he's overpaid.
