Just something to keep the discussions going. Everyday i'll post a Team from a MLB division, and you tell me/us that teams greatest or most popular player and why. here's the trick, just one player you must choose.
today's team: Seattle Mariners JAY BUHNER, i just thought he played the game like it should be played. Had he not been in a line-up surrounded by superstars Ken Griffey Jr., Edgar Martinez, and Alex Rodriguez, Buhner's accomplishments might have been more noted. Buhner retired at the end of the 2001 season as one of the most popular players in Mariners history. The Mariners have not issued his #19 jersey since he retired,

One of the worst trades in Yankee history was Buhner for Ken Phelps. I hated it at the time, and was pissed off every time Phelps would strikeout and I'd hear Buhner threw out a runner, or hit a big homer. He was a hard nosed guy, which attributed to all of the injuries he had.

living in new york (upstate) me and all my non yankee fan friends used to rub that trade in my other friends face . we refered to him as Jay the Yankee killer Buhner. it just seemed like everytime they played he was hitting a homerun or throwing out someone.how about the shave your head promo nights .

if you agree with J. Buhner for seattle, kool, but if not be my guest and promote your own Mariner( i thought Buhner, who do you think)

If it's a question of my favorite, it's Buhner. Always liked him, always respected him even when he was killing us.
If it's a question of who's the most popular or all-time greatest for the M's, I'd have to go with Edgar Martinez. Quiet leader, consistant hitter. He was a DH out of the fact of his bad knees, not due to fieding problems.

He was always coming up with a big hit and was a great fielder until his knee injuries started.

Very interesting Basenoc. Will get very interesting when we get to teams like the Yankees or the Bosox. For the best player, I liked buhner, but Griffey, despite his injuries could play some ball.

Tough choice on this one. Salmon, Jim Edmonds, Don Baylor, Nolan Ryan, Rod Carew, Bobby Grich, Garrett Anderson.....
As far as best player, I'd go with Ryan or Carew. All-time fan favorite is most likely Carew, but newer fans would probably go with Salmon or Anderson.

well with my limited coverage of the west coast i always thought that Wally Joyner was a big fan favorite. as for me personally i never liked watching reggie in that uniform for whatever reason. but i did like Don Baylor .

... but i did like Don Baylor . Everyone liked Don Baylor. Mabe it's because he played for just about every AL team. ;D Seriously though, he's a good guy and a smart baseball man.

i loved his demeanor at the plate, he wasn't bigger than the game. He never show boated , if he got hit (which was alot) he just jogged down to first base .

this team here is difficult because they have been used for a way station for so many years. they had great players, but i'm looking for Rangers not pit stops.
Todays team: TEXAS RANGERS
so that being said i choose, Ivan Rodriguez. Pudge has a career batting average of .304 and has won eleven Gold Glove Awards as a catcher, as well as the American League Most Valuable Player Award in 1999. Iván is considered by many to be the greatest catcher of all time[citation needed]; his World Series ring with the Marlins in 2003 solidifed this belief for many. When Rodríguez made his major league debut with the Texas Rangers on June 20, 1991, he became the youngest person to play catcher in a major league game. He immediately established himself as an excellent hitter who was also proficient in throwing out would-be base-stealers. In fact, no other catcher in the past 35 years has been as successful at this aspect of the game, with Rodríguez throwing out 48% of attempted basestealers through May 2006, far more than the runner-up in this period, the late Thurman Munson.I wanted to get an oldtimer like Buddy Bell but to me there's just no denying Pug.

I would agree that Ivan Rodriguez would be the Rangers all time best.
There are some other notables - Juan Gonzales, Rusty Greer (probably the fan favorite), Buddy Bell, Nolan Ryan (at the end of his career, but was still pretty good), Jeff Burroughs, Larry Parrish, Fergie Jenkins (though his best years were with the Cubs), Jim Sundberg, and if you wanted to go back to thier 10 years in Washington, Frank "Hondo" Howard
