Well, earlier last week I heard the Yankees were seriously listening to offers. The next rumor was A-Rod to Houston for Oswalt and Lidel. Today, ESPN reported that the Cubs are aggressively persuing him. Lou Pinella denied it today, but that is the norm in early off-season talks. Leverage is key. The only problem is that the Cubs don't have the pitching that the Yankees want, unless Zambrano is in the mix. I highly doubt that the Cubs will give him up. He would fit in at SS there, and would give them a formitable lineup with Lee, Ramirez, and Pierre. It may just be smoke to get other teams to bid for him, creating buzz so to speak.

Jayson Stark reports on "Mike and Mike" that the Whitesox are legitimate contenders for A-Rod as well. They would use Joe Crede as the centerpiece of the deal and a starter.
Angels also could use him and have trade bait for him.

He's a clubhouse pariah and is not liked by the fans. The Yankees can get alot for him, and better the chemistry in the lockerroom. I think he's a great player, and I think the whole "can't hit in the clutch" thing is way overblown, but I would (as do many Yankee fans) love to see the Yankees win in the manner that they did before. With pitching, defense, and hard-nosed play. We need guys like Paul O'Niell, Tino Martinez, David Cone, Joe Girardi, and Scott Brosius. Team guys who live and die with the win. Guys who bunt runners over, hit to the left side, take the extra base, work the count, play solid D, play aggressive, etc. I would like nothing better than seeing A-Rod, Sheffield, and Giambi in other uniforms next season.

You can't have all those bats in your line up. AROD should have been trying to bunt guys over instead with all their speed instead of swinging (and missing) for the fences.

My first thought after the loss was that the Cubs would be interested in A-Rod. For some reason, I can see a Zambrano trade. Eventually The Cubs will realize that they need to take a leap if they ever want to be good again.

Yeah, I hope Gilick isn't really considering that. I mean it'd be nice to have him at 3B, but we'd probably be losing Chase or Howard, or both. I can't see him finding a way to justify that. They need to fast track the kid they picked up pre waiver deadline from the Yanks.
Paying for ARod is something only doable by someone like the Angels, the Cubs, or maybe Boston.

If they send out Arod they had better shore up their pitching.
