But if a game is considered a regulation game, meaning it goes 5 innings, isn't that counted not as a forfeit but a completed game?

Yeah I found a lot of conflicting info as well. However most of it was from unreliable sources. I would say though that baseball digest is very reputable and does very good and thorough research.
I think perhaps why you can't verify it is because of the lack of statistical evidence. They are not an official stat and they aren't derived from anything else. Therefore the only real evidence we have before televised games are newspaper reports.

This is really just me nitpicking to be a jyrk but Yount played 17 games in 1976 AFTER his september 16th birthday. So the number of games is 398. :-)
