Thanks, he has to be one of my all time favorites. It's either him or Roberto, I just wish I had the opportunity to see them play.

i was playing myself, {that don't sound quite right} ;D instead of watching TV, but i remember Roberto's last couple of years and seen alot of Pops. Stargell was a force to be reckon with, matter of fact them Pirate teams then were rough as heck too beat. Pops also did something none of these players today would do, he let his playing determine how much he was worth to the Pirates by signing one year contracts coming to the end of his career. Unheard of

Man...I wish I knew these things. The only Pirates I've seen so far has been 13 years of losing.

The old Pirate teams in the late 70 (before being called the family) were called "the Lumber Company". Stargell, Dave "Cobra" Parker (should be HOFer), Phil "Scrap Iron" Garner, Rene Stennett, Omar Moreno, Mike "Hitman" Easler......

Pitcher Don Sutton offered the best description to the Pirates' hitters of the 1970's, who were known as the Lumber Company. "Some teams watch a pitcher and say, 'Oh boy, here comes a fastball.' Others say, 'Oh boy, here comes a curveball.' The Pirates say, 'Oh boy, here comes a baseball.'"

Should have asked this before I sent my PM, but did the Mets ever go by a different name? If so, should those players on the other named teams be included?

I don't think so. The Mets were an expansion team in the 60's. The other New York teams were the New York Yankees, the New York Giants, and the Brooklyn Dodgers but the Dodgers are the Dodgers, the Giants are the Giants, and the Yankees are the Yankees.
