Just because you have the money to spend doesn't mean you will always win. The Yankees make the playoffs a lot but it doesn't mean they will win the World Series. There are a lot of factors that go into a winning team including luck and timing which is something you can't buy.

money is key, but the Yankees won a whole lot early in their history, now they spend money too keep their winning tradition intact, Steinbrenner is to me, the very best owner in Major sports history.

Yeah, but the Pirates won in the past. They were in the very first World Series ever! The 60s to 80s were generally good to them also, but from the 90s on it's just been terrible.

did you guys forget about the 80's when NY would spend a buttload of money only to go home empty handed? Money is nice to have but it doesn't win championships.

that's very enlighting Rzobb, it kinda explains why MLB wants big market teams in the WS. baseball truly lives up to what i thought a long time, that it is a individual team sport.

So they got more money, but their payroll is still only $46.7 million it said.
