-Dusty Baker signs with Cincy. He now has a new pitching staff to mismanage.
- Tony LaRussa is waiting until the new GM is hired before he resigns with STL. He is also rumored to be interested in the Yankee job should Torre not be offered a new contract.
- Bobby Valentine is also rumored to be interested for the Yanks job. Other possible candidates are Joe Girardi, Don Mattingly, Tony Pena, and Larry Bowa. No decision has been made, and none will be until the meetings starting this week.
- Jose Oquendo is still high on people's lists, but rumor has it, he's waiting to see where LaRussa ends up. Possible replacement? He loves working with LaRussa, and if he comes back, he might just stay put.

Torre turned down contract offer from the Yanks. Do you think he'll manage somewhere next year or take a year off?

If he manages somewhere else, he won't be paid half of what he was last year. The only teams that would pay that much for him, already have managers, unless he ends up in Baltimore. I wouldn't take the BMore job for twice the money if I were him. If he retires now, he's a sure HOFer. He can make up the salary in endorsements and speaking engagements.

you're right jyrk, but if baseball's in your blood, the challenge of Bmore job might be what Torre thrives for. remember jim leyland?

Girardi has been offered the Yankee job. It's a matter of contract now.
The dominoe effect of this is the Dodgers had Girardi as their #1 choice. Speculation is that Joe Torre could end up in LA and take Mattingly with him. Mattingly is pissed about not getting the job, but Girardi was the right choice in my opinion.

I'd be happy if I were you. What with the curse of Don Mattingly.

Joe G. would have been my choice as well...FLA should have never let him go....
on a personal note...I hate the fact that when a manager/coach is canned...he is replaced by a manager who also was fired just seasons before....but it's much worse in the NFL.
