As was reported before game 3 of the ALDS, Steinbrenner said Torre would likely be fired unless the Yankees made it to the ALCS. Well, they didn't. So will Torre be gone? And is this a good idea?
In 12 seasons with Torre at the helm the Yankees have played in 6 world series, winning 4 and made the playoffs every year.
Sure he has his flaws, he overuses key guys in the bullpen. But at what point does the blame for "under performing" leave the manager and go to the players. And who does the boss expect to get who would be better than Torre?

I don't think he's gone. I don't think George will risk losing Posada, Rivera, and Pettite. Torre, in my opinion, has earned the right to leave on his own terms and even have a say in who will be his successor.

I agree that Torre has earned the right to leave on his own terms. But that doesn't mean the boss cares.

I have a feeling the Yankees are going to tell Torre he's not in their future plans so it'll probably be a retire or your fired.

Well he's not under contract so they can't fire him, per se. Just refuse to bring him back.

Buster Olney thinks he's gone. That there's no way he'll be back.
He'll be back.

I think Joe should hold a press conference saying he doesn't want to go back. Then take a year to be in a studio. He really got a raw deal from the Yanks front office.
